All About Dice

I sell dice of all shapes and sizes! All of them are handmade with resin and hand painted with acrylic paint. I use a couple different molds and some of them vary in size and design.  I also make liquid core dice, miniature dice, and jumbo dice.

Dice are referred to by their number of sides. A full D&D dice set includes seven dice: a d20, d12, d10, d8, d6, d4, and another d10 with multiples of 10 used on each face (often called a percentage dice).

Sharp Edge Dice

These are your classic 7 piece set tabletop gaming dice. They have a shiny or matte finish depending on what is used to make them and how much they’re polished.

Sharp edge dice sets are made from resin. Resin dice sets typically have more beautiful detail and last longer. The quality can be more expensive, but it is worth it to many RPG players.

You may notice that you are more likely to roll each side of a die an equal number of times with sharp edge dice, as compared to rounded dice. Casinos often prefer sharp edge dice for this reason.

The standard size for my  sharp edge dice are:

  • D4: 18mm
  • D6: 14mm
  • D8: 23mm
  • D10: 22mm
  • D12: 17mm
  • D20: 22mm

Dragon Scale Dice

These are a different style of dice I make with rounded edges and a large, bold, textured number that stands out. The edges are rounded, and they’re about the same size as sharp edged dice. They’re also made of resin and can be customized in any way, including liquid core.

These are my favourite to make and are a big hit. They’re unique and very customizable. The large numbers and unique font are great for playing anywhere, and you won’t have to look hard to see what you rolled. These have more of a matte finish.

Rounded Edge Dice

These are the third type of full size dice I make. They’re very shiny and have rounded edges and feel nice to hold, and shine brightly. They can be made with liquid cores as well. They’re slightly smaller than the dragon scale dice and sharp edged dice. They are customizable in many ways, and are lightweight and have bold numbers.

Round edge dice

The standard sizes for my rounded edge dice are:

  • D4: 19mm
  • D6: 13mm
  • D8: 18mm
  • D10: 22mm
  • D12: 20mm
  • D20: 24mm

Which dice are which?

Dice are named by the number of sides they have.

They come in various shapes, with each shape denoting a different type of die. The most common polyhedral dice used in tabletop RPGs are the d4 (four-sided), d6 (six-sided), d8 (eight-sided), d10 (ten-sided), d12 (twelve-sided), and d20 (twenty-sided).

Here’s a breakdown of each:

(Four-sided): Shaped like a pyramid, it’s typically used for lower damage rolls or certain random tables. There are other shapes a D4 can come in, such as a crystal or shard, but the pyramid is most popular and the oldest style.

(Six-sided): The standard die found in many board games, used extensively in RPGs for simple tasks like damage rolls or determining success.

(Eight-sided): Often used for weapon damage, spell damage, or certain skill checks.

(Ten-sided): Sometimes used in pairs to create percentages (by rolling one for the tens digit and the other for the units), or singly for certain damage or skill rolls.

(Twelve-sided): Less common but still used for damage rolls, especially for larger weapons or powerful attacks.

(Twenty-sided): The quintessential die in many RPGs, used for resolving many actions such as attacks, saving throws, and skill checks. Rolling a 20 often represents a critical success, while rolling a 1 is often a critical failure.

Additionally, some RPGs may utilize other specialized dice, like percentile dice (d10s numbered from 0 to 9, rolled together to generate numbers from 00 to 99) or custom dice with symbols representing different outcomes.

These dice can come in various materials like plastic, metal, or even gemstones, each offering a different feel and weight to the roll.
